"We Shall Not Be Moved is an old union song from the 1930s. Of course it used to be a gospel song, Jesus is my Captain, I will not be Moved. We Shall Overcome is another union song which started out as a gospel song, I Will Overcome. But the unionists on the picket lines made a significant change, just one word. Instead of 'I will be saved and to hell with everyone else', they sang 'we', that wonderful first person plural...one word, WE!" (from the stage show, One Word...WE!)
new theatre is delighted to present the return season of One Word...WE! opening January 8, 2000 and running through to January 29. new theatre first presented Maurie Mulheron's musical biography of Pete Seeger in 1995, when it played to packed houses and standing ovations. Five years later, after innumerable requests from people who saw it the first time or couldn't get a seat, the return season of One Word...WE! ushers in the new year with a chronicle of one of the world's most progressive and influential musicians of the twentieth century, Pete Seeger.
