NYE in Sydney is a great time to check out Sydney's Public Transport. We set out from Annandale Post Office, about 7.20pm, where we caught the 470 to the Lilyfield Tram Stop. It was a stunning evening, but unfortunately, I picked a seat on the Southern side of the carriage, so the view wasn't as spectacular as it could have been.

We alighted at Pyrmont Bridge, in the hope of walking across but encountered the No Alcohol Zone. So, we checked whether the Monorail would accept our extended $20 NYE Mymulti Day Pass - but it didn't so, we headed back to the Tram station and continued to George Street.

George Street was blocked to vehicular traffic from Goulbourn so we walked to Town Hall. Most of the entrances to the Station were closed but a helpful Policeman directed us to an open one.

The Hornsby Train soon arrived and took us to Woolstonecraft Station, where we alighted as the 9pm Fireworks began.

We walked through Smoothey Park across the bridge over the gorge and onto Greenwich Road, which we followed down to Greenwich Point. Though the popular spot for a view of the Bridge was Manns Park

After the fireworks, we caught the City to Woolwich Ferry, which was returning express to the City. It arrived a little later than scheduled in the published Sydney Ferries Summer/NYE Timetable. The general transport information guide, information hotline and website did not provide information about the service.

Arriving back at Circular Quay, we had to go in search of the 470 to return us to Annandale. At the QVB/York Street bus stop, we were advised the George Street Buses were travelling along Castlereagh Street. We arrived at the stop between Market and William to find a 470 with a driver. After a couple of stops on our private bus, other passengers alighted in George Street and at Central.

We alighted at the Post Office about 3 hours into 2012 - very happy that we had chosen to travel by public transport!.
