Theora makes its way back into the HTML5 standard! Re: proposed audio/video codec text (July 2009)

The Draft HTML5 Specification describes how video and audio should be incorporated in webpages. Listed below are the relevant items in the current specfication which are under review.

• an ability to associate/display a still image - or first frame on the webpage to indicate video - possibly covered by irrelevant tag
• choice of streaming or download of entire clip - media/video/audio elements
• captioning for the hearing impaired/description for the visually impaired/alternate languages -lang tag
• dubbing/alternate audio streams - multilingual
• Ability to provide alternate versions of video - for those with limited bandwidth/alternate devices- network states?
