reduced map"How can we manage changing traffic conditions in the Annandale precinct?
Council is preparing a Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) plan, which will recommend measures to manage traffic and improve road safety over the next 10 years. The Annandale precinct study area is bounded by City West Link, Parramatta Road, Balmain Road, The Crescent, Johnstons Creek, Wigram Road and Mallett Street .
Local knowledge of walking, riding bikes and driving in the neighbourhood is highly valuable to this work. We would like to hear from schools, residents, business owners, visitors, and workers in the Newtown South precinct. People living with a disability are encouraged to participate.
Aims of the Local Area Traffic Management plan
The plan will aim to:
Improve road safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists
Calm traffic and improve access for pedestrians and cyclists
Prioritise recommendations to improve amenity in the study area

Proposed changes to planning controls for Parramatta Road Corridor

reduced map"In 2016, the former State Government endorsed Parramatta Road Corridor Urban Transformation Strategy (PRCUTS) as a 30-year plan to renew the Parramatta Road Corridor including Leichhardt, Taverners Hill and Kings Bay/Croydon precincts in the Inner West. Council is undertaking public consultation because we want the voice of our community to be heard.
We are seeking your feedback on the proposed changes to planning controls for specific areas in the Parramatta Road Corridor, located in:
Leichhardt precinct – parts of Annandale, Leichhardt, Stanmore, Petersham
Taverners Hill precinct – parts of Leichhardt, Lewisham, Summer Hill
Kings Bay/Croydon precinct – parts of Croydon
Why we're [Inner West Council] doing this
PRCUTS was given statutory force via Section 9.1 Ministerial Direction in December 2016. It sets out the vision and principles to renew Parramatta Road Corridor between Camperdown and Granville and accommodate 27,000 new homes and 50,000 jobs across the Corridor.

Delivery of this strategy is the responsibility of local councils through amendments to planning controls.
In 2020, Council endorsed the Inner West Local Housing Strategy (LHS) which identifies areas along Parramatta Road Corridor for short to medium term housing supply.
What we're doing
We are seeking your feedback on the proposed planning controls in the Inner West Local Environmental Plan (IWLEP) 2022 and supporting Development Control Plans (DCPs) for specific areas in the Parramatta Road Corridor to start the incremental implementation of PRCUTS.
The implementation area is based on PRCUTS Implementation Update 2021. This is to focus growth adjacent to key local economic centres and where there is existing or committed transport infrastructure (light rail, railway, bus network, future Metro).
The staging of implementation of PRCUTS will
address the Department of Planning and Environment's (DPE) required shortfall of up to 1600 dwellings in the Inner West;
ensure that development occurs in line with infrastructure delivery.
This proposal will facilitate up to 1600 new dwellings and 2000 new jobs. It puts forward a range of amendments to LEP/DCP planning controls to incentivise delivery of much-needed housing and jobs whilst also protecting and enhancing the historic heritage of the Parramatta Road Corridor.
The proposed amendments have been informed by PRCUTS supporting studies and a range of technical studies such as urban design, heritage, economic assessment, affordability, sustainability, traffic/transport study etc."...

Welcome to Annandale Galleries

"Mali’- the reflection/my spirit is as groundbreaking as you would expect from the progenitor of the Found movement which was launched at Annandale Galleries in 2013.

This is his first exhibition which is completely from metal. Mali’ is a Yolŋu word which means shadow, reflection, soul, spirit, ghost. The title plays on the reflectivity of the etched and polished material which itself reflects his gentle but indomitable spirit. As well as being held in the collections of all major Australian institutions his work is included in many international settings including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York."

Land for Trees and Cycleways

truck using Church ParkingStreet Tree We need land for trees and cycles if we are going to tackle Climate Change.

" In 2005, an average of over 120,000 vehicles travelled through Annandale each dayRTA.
If all these vehicles were the 2010 Holden VE SIDI Commodore Berlina and they travelled just 1km, they would have generated 301g CO2-e(greenguide) each. The total CO2-e equivalent generated by Traffic through Annandale, in just one day, would be 301g*120,000 vehicles =36,120kg.
A Hardwood Tree, such as box, gum or olive, with a 32cm girth stores 17 kg or the CO2-e of 62kg(Tree Carbon Calculator). To be carbon neutral, Annandale would need the equivalent of 582 Trees for each day's traffic!"...

We need to make better use of our road reserve to provide underutilised land for pedestrians, public transport, trees, vegetation and cycleways....
