Dear Residents and Businesses,
Council at the Ordinary meeting held on 22 February 2011 considered a Notice of Motion on
traffic calming for Booth Street and resolved:
"1. That Council investigate the installation of a raised pedestrian crossing at the
Booth Street and Taylor Street intersection. This raised pedestrian crossing would be
in addition to, or instead of the proposed roundabout.
2. That Council investigate upgrading the proposed raised threshold at the Trafalgar
Street and Booth Street intersection to a raised pedestrian crossing.
3. That Council investigate upgrading the proposed raised threshold at the
Annandale Street and Booth Street intersection to a raised pedestrian crossing.
4. That these investigations include consultation with neighbouring residents and
businesses, the Annandale Precinct and the traffic committee.
5. That a report detailing the results of these investigations be
brought to the April 2011 Ordinary Council meeting."
Currently, Council is investigating the introduction of a 40km/hr speed limit for Booth Street
as a 'High Pedestrian Activity Area'. The above pedestrian treatments have been
incorporated in this design.
A draft copy of the proposed treatments is attached on Council’s website at
www.leichhardt@lmc.nsw.gov.au under Your Council\Public Consultation. These proposals
have some impact on kerb side parking in Booth Street. Also street lighting would be
reviewed at the proposed pedestrian devices to ensure adequate lighting at the device as
per Australian Standards.
Consequently, you are cordially invited to attend a presentation with Ward Councillors to
discuss these traffic calming treatments in Annandale Town Hall commencing at 6.30pm on
Tuesday, 5th April 2011.
Should you require any further information about this matter, please contact me on (9367
9039).
John Stephens
