Subject: Follow up from Badu Park Rally against WestCONnex Email: Fri, 2 Dec 2016 12:04:42 +1100 Dear Annandale and Camperdown neighbours,
You are receiving this email after your opposition to WestConnex was noted at the rally in Badu Park on 20th November.
West Connex in our local area will mean
12-15 trucks per hr for up to 24hrs a day, carrying spoil from underground diggings (7 days a week like the St Peters tunnelling site)
Smokestacks (n Rozelle and ???) with serious health effects (unfiltered particulate matter from thousands of vehicles using the tunnel)
Intense traffic congestion and gridlock in Booth St, Johnston St and Bridge Rd
Disruption and delays to public transport
Pollution from additional cars and trucks and rat runs through local streets
Parking for 350 workers in local streets
Land may be acquired for permanent facilities
Loss of precious green and open spaces
Many of you are already active in your opposition to the project, but for those of you who want to get more involved, here are some suggestions:

26th November Danny Spooner and Gael Shannon with Margaret Walters A Tribute to the Copper Family of Rottingdean, Sussex.
The Copper Family of Rottendean, Sussex have some two or three hundred songs that they have kept alive over a couple of hundred years. The family name has been known in that area since 1593. Sussex is one of the most beautiful counties in England, the upland verdant green downs make fine pasture and the limestone soil is good for growing crops. The Downs also look out over the cliffs and the English Channel, and some of the people from the area ventured to the sea for their livelihoods as sailors and fishermen. In this illustrated tribute Danny, Gael & Margaret will explore the history of the family, their songs & their influence of the folk song revival.

Collaborative debut show by Winona Druhan & Nial Gayle
Artists Winona Druhan and Nial Gayle showcase their illustration work in a daring collaborative debut show.
Comprised solely of ink on paper, these two artists exhibit their hand drawn works that hybridize various sources of symbolism across ancient cultures. Each of their personal styles work harmoniously to express a unique perspective on this cultural symbolism as well as its links with Hermetic and Alchemic wisdom.
On the Wednesday night Nial and Winona will being doing an artists talk and Q&A about their art and what has inspired it. Through illustration they reveal their interpretation of goddess mythology, alchemy and symbology in both ancient and modern times. By incorporating various ink styles inspired by tattoo, vintage illustration, symbols and abstract pattern work they manifest a unique perspective on the ideas of self-transformation.
On the Friday night as well as a brief talk and explanation of their artworks , Nial and winona will be accompanied by the musical talents of Narin Gayle aka Steez an upcoming artist to the Sydney music scene. His style is a fusion of all music , stemming from the rhythm of his Jamaican roots and through electronic music he creates a new sound and genre focusing on being in the present moment. Rachmaninoff Cello Sonata
Paul Stender on Cello and Chris Cartner on Piano
Rachmaninoff's sonata for cello and piano is surely one of the highlights of the Russian Romantic chamber music repertoire.
Written for cellist Anatoliy Brandukov (the 'best man' at the composer's wedding) the work displays all of the great expressive (as well as technically-mesmerising) qualities of the instruments. Fans of the ever-popular "2nd Piano Concerto" will love this smaller masterpiece, composed in the same year of 1901.

Loaded Dog Folk Club 24th September Martin Pearson (Vic) + Cathy Rytmeister
Martin is the world's funniest male, long-haired, Victorian, piscean folk singer. Formerly of the act "Martin Pearson", Martin has rose to fame like a dead pigeon in a water tank. Martin plays the fool in B sharp. With support from Cathy who would love to give up her day job and spend more time singing, playing and songwriting but the need to eat is likely to keep her from that decision for a few years yet. She started playing guitar and singing at around the age of 12 and has indulged in music as a hobby ever since, fitting it in around the aforementioned day job and her union and other political activism. She's progressed from teenage years busking with pops songs, through playing Irish tunes with work colleagues and calling dances with a bush band, to finding a happy conjunction of singing and activism with Sydney choirs Solidarity and Ecopella. She also likes to hang out at folk festival singing sessions and has even penned the odd (VERY odd!) parody. Now she's taking her chances in a solo performance at her favourite folk club.

Following a very public, very audible blunder by Albert at the birthday festivities of the young prince, the paltry pair are forced in to hibernation for a century of so. They awake in the modern world only to discover that living in the age of Facebook, television and smart phones is about as tolerable as an eternity of one another's company...more

TOHU :: Two premiers by Omer & Sharon Backley-Astrachan
Presented by: FlyBear Studio (Dance)
TOHU by FlyBear Studio presents two exciting new works by independent choreographers Omer & Sharon Backley-Astrachan.
TOHU - a physical journey that explores the universal behavior of humankind. Through the research of cycles and patterns in the universe and the 'natural world', Omer and Sharon Backley-Astrachan strive to make sense of our most enigmatic behaviors.
In a chaotic world, full of passion and art, full of hatred and racism, full of people we love, diversity and beauty, it is truly important to understand our common grounds. Understanding our connections and parallels, as apposed to our disparity and differences, and sooner rather than later.

sARTorial
Presented by: dLux MediaArts (NSW) Where digital art meets fashion, sound and technology.
sARTorial is a spectacle of the senses where technology and fashion collide. Part fashion show and part art exhibition, this one night event showcases some of Australia’s leading artists and designers in the field of fashion, technology, digital art, industrial art and sound engineering.
This year’s sARTorial performance is based around the four sensory elements of light, sound, movement and touch. Drawing on these elements, the artists and designers will collaborate to create one-off wearable pieces using the latest trending design technologies and interactive techniques.
The event ambassador is Erica Gray, an artist who is internationally recognised as one of the leading figures in the field of wearable arts. She has won several awards for her sculptural pieces and artworks both within Australia and New Zealand. Not unfamiliar to Sydney Fringe, art collective Purple Moustacho will return to invigorate audiences with their surreal and visually striking artworks that explore themes of gender, sexuality and consumerism.

That's what she said...
Presented by: Minor Emergency Theatre Company (NSW)
What makes a woman? Is it as simple as anatomy, or is there a universal experience or core that links all women? Is anatomy irrelevant? Is being a woman a feeling? And how is that different to being a girl? Is femininity intrinsic to womanhood?
In our first production, Minor Emergency Theatre Company asks these questions, both of an audience and of the women we have interviewed to create ‘That's what she said...’. Will these questions be answered? It’s likely they won’t, but our hope is that in asking them, a discussion will ensue. Our play itself is an hour long discussion; the words taken verbatim from women we know. Like the women, the subject matter is diverse, ranging from the struggles of a morning to those of a lifetime, humorous anecdotes to difficult recollections.
Another question: why verbatim? Verbatim puts the words of real people on a stage- not characters, not famous figures, but the people we know, whose words are not always heard as loudly or clearly as they should be. If we have learned anything from the recent new-wave of feminism, it’s that female voices need to be heard more. We’d like make our own offering of female voices: the voices of a five woman theatre company, as well as those of the many women kind enough to speak to us.
