Dec 4 : The Dudley Trio feat. George Washingmachine & Tilly Street
"It’s our third last Thursday in Annandale. For eight years our little crew of volunteers has, with the generous support of the Newtown Mission church (and Brand X during the lockdowns), hosted about 420 gigs, live and live streamed. I can’t begin to imagine how many thousands of hours we’ve all put in, but our reward has been the music that would not have happened otherwise, and the joy in the room (and on the screen) at the end of a magical night." - Andrew
"Then we’ll take a month or two to settle in to our new home in the Newtown Mission church on King St (just up from the station). Ears to the ground, eyes peeled, we’ll let you know when we’re ready to get started." - Andrew

We won't be doing subscription tickets for the entire year as we are planning to release performance dates with shorter notice (2-3 months before a concert). This will give us better flexibility around our other touring and performance commitments. It also means that we will be trying out some new Sydney venues. One important date that we can share (put it in your diaries) is that on the 17th May, we will be performing at the Sydney Opera House, The Art Music of Joe Hisaishi (ticket link coming soon)." -Phoenix Collective. "Joubert Singers is a community choir which was formed in 1994 comprising of 30 - 40 singers. Our choir is non-auditioned, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for experienced singers and musicians.
We generally present three concerts each year, held in venues within Sydney.
Additionally, we offer engaging workshops, community concerts and collaborate with other choirs, to further enrich the musical experience for our members and the community.
Our repertoire spans from classical masterpieces to stirring spirituals and innovative new Australian compositions, reflecting our commitment to artistic excellence and exploration.
THE JOUBERT BROTHERS STORY
Didier Joubert:The creation of the suburb of Hunters Hill in the 19th century was influenced by an unusual number of colonists from continental Europe. Most eminent were the Frenchmen – Didier Joubert (1816-81) and his brother Jules (1824 - 1907), who migrated to Australia from the Bordeaux area of France in the 1830s. Didier Joubert, a wine and spirit merchant who ran a business in Sydney town, settled in Hunters Hill in 1847. He purchased Mary Reibey’s Figtree Farm, and, once his brother Jules joined him in 1854, they began building sandstone villas and laying out subdivisions.
Both brothers were active protagonists for the development of local amenities. Didier became the first mayor of Hunter’s Hill in 1867-69 while Jules was the first chairman of the local council.
Didier Joubert was a colonial-era amateur photographer, who reportedly produced the first recorded photograph taken on Australian soil. Rejoice!

"Since the late eighties he has painted roundabouts, intersections, pedestrian crossings and street markings - each time managing to unearth something remarkable about the humble road. In Geographics, his attention has turned almost exclusively to the meandering tar lines which fill the cracked bitumen of Sydney streets, where the artist lives and works. He focuses on the continual cycle of fracture and repair experienced quite literally by the urban landscape. These remedial tar lines indicate a tension between our efforts to impose order and nature’s responsive resistance."..

"FLOW STATES -Barks, Larrakitj & Sculpture: SHOWING 31 JULY - 30 AUGUST 2025 Join us for an opening reception, 9 August 1-3pm
Flow States brings together a selection of recent and private-collection works from leading Yolŋu artists of north-east Arnhem Land, having passed through the Buku-Larrŋgay Mulka Centre (Yirrkala, NT) with whom Annandale has collaborated for three decades. While the works on display represent only a fraction shown at Annandale Galleries over the years, they nonetheless point to pivotal moments where Yolŋu art was shaped by community members, and shared in innovative ways.
It has been a privilege to witness such work enthusiastically embraced, revered and collected, both locally and internationally. More than aesthetical and formal revelations, Yolŋu people have proven that the rhythm of art is one of deep, passionate commitment to our homes and the ones with which we share it.

Annandale Galleries is excited to announce that two of the most influential names in modern art will return to the gallery for the first time in over a decade. Featuring etchings, linocuts, aquatints, lithographs and collage, the exhibition traces their stylistic experimentations as well as innovations within printmaking and colour theory.
We see the lasting relevance of Henri Matisse and Robert Motherwell in the way they confronted the unknown and ephemeral qualities that defined their own times. This is evident through their shared love for the poet Mallarmé and his dictum "describe not the object itself but the effect it produces". Not only would they become key figures of their own movements, they created seismic shifts which reverberate to this day.

FARNAZ DADFAR • EMILY ISABEL TAYLOR • SASKIA VANDER
Opening Wednesday 12 March 6:30-8:00 pm
Exhibition dates: 12 March – 12 April 2025
Marking the second annual Newcomers series, recent art-school graduates have been invited to usher in the new year of exciting exhibitions and events.
Each artist embraces a sense of fragmentation, where the act of repairing broken matter, reshaping images and reframing personal narratives translates to an act of resilience and regeneration. Whether through painting, bronze, glass or recycled plastic, each carries the memory of lived experience and produces something stronger and more adaptable than before.
For all inquiries, including early access to our Newcomers25 catalogue and pricelist, please contact info@annandalegalleries.com.au
